OPERATE COMPLETELY IN THE CLOUD​

The COVID-19 pandemic, and the business challenges caused by it, have accelerated a shift from terrestrial to the cloud for many companies.  Users need to easily work, collaborate, and communicate from multiple devices and locations without ever needing to meet in-person or come to the office...

The RESULTS International Conference (20-21 June) was a gathering unique in the organisation’s history. As well as celebrating the 40^th anniversary of RESULTS, it was our first virtual conference, and our largest ever gathering, with some 800 attendees from over 20 countries, with grassroots advocates and people with lived experience of poverty and oppression from both the US and around the world.

The conference came at a time when the Black Lives Matter movement rightly reinforces how racism and poverty are intertwined. Hearing RESULTS US Executive Director Joanne Carter address this unequivocally, I felt proud to be part of an organisation that is willing to face up to the implications for our advocacy of centuries of oppression, and to challenge the social attitudes and structures that create and perpetuate poverty and inequality, whether it be in New Jersey or Nairobi.

Mac users running the latest version of macOS 10.14 Mojave will have another good reason to be happy about their Office 365 service today.  Microsoft has released to production one of OneDrive’s most useful features, Files On-Demand.  This feature was first announced at Microsoft’s Ignite 2018 conference and now it’s finally ready for consumer use.

Files On-Demand is a feature that allows you to access all of your personal and work OneDrive files from Finder without consuming all of your local storage.  Microsoft describes this as “… an intelligent connection to the cloud” that further increase the power and convenience of Office 365. 

Microsoft Office is a large ecosystem with a great suite of software. Included in the suite are a number of collaboration options including SharePoint Groups, Yammer, SharePoint Teams and Microsoft Teams.  While business users have many options when it comes to collaboration, Microsoft has done the best job in detailing when to use which platform.  

Many users like the idea of storing their common folders (Documents, Photos, Downloads, etc.) in OneDrive.  The versatility of having their files available where ever they go is very appealing along with the extra security of having the files backed up in the cloud.

Microsoft has introduced a new method of securely sharing files and folders stored in SharePoint Online and OneDrive with external users.  These are welcome changes, because frankly, the previous method was a little clunky and was not always reliable.

Recently, Microsoft has introduced a new feature to help modernize current SharePoint team sites.  That feature is the new ability to connect team sites to Office 365 groups.  

Last month I entered the beta program to test the next version of the SharePoint Migration Tool.  The beta supported new capabilities such as support for SharePoint Lists, the ability to script destination site creation, and more.  Now, Microsoft has announced that V2 of the SharePoint Migration Toll is generally available.
